By tropics I mean The Gambia in West Africa.I live in the tropics and would like to plant some Olive trees. Could someone kindly advise me on this.?
Not too sure what the weather is like in Gambia but the requirements for an olive tree are fairly flexible. They do best in relatively dry conditions so a rain forest is out, they do not like cold weather although a frost occasionally doesn't harm them. They are messy however unless you are planning on harvesting the olives they drop to the ground and make a heck of a mess. You do know you can't eat them straight off the tree? You have to soak them in brine....
