I need help, because there are so many anti-anxiety and depression treatments that I don't know how which would be best for me. Also, when I go into one of these herb shops, I expect one that will custom-fit my needs. I have been described as having been post-traumatized. I also struggle with anxiety and depression for almost 20 years. I am now out on my own (and trying to salvage my existence after all these years of feeling trapped) and I need a little help from an herb or herbs to get rid of some of these symptoms while I am in the process of being counseled....Are herb shop retailers/workers certified to advise me on what it is I truly need?
No they are not. But Jesus and Buddha were not certified either. The only person that can legally decide what is best for you is you. See this webpage.
When a doc puts you on a med and it doesn't work, he puts you on another. If that does not work than another and another and another.

If you are in doubt of someone's ability to advise you on products, ask what their qualifications are.
If they don't have any, go somewhere else. In OZ most health food stores have a resident naturopath.
Maybe try some Bach Flower Essences to help with the anxiety.
my natural foods store has a huge book we use to look up symptoms, remedies, etc... the girl who works this section is very knowledgeable, but no-not certified in any way. best thing is to listen to suggestions from a few different sources, research what you learn, and then make a decision. FYI-fish oil works for many types of depression and anxiety-but dont just take my word for it-look it up! Good luck on you recovery.
If you are looking for a custom-fit, you need to do your own research about herbs. The people in those shops are not certified for anything. There are many sites that will tell you about these things; just do a google search and see what's out there.
If you have insurance go see a doctor. They can prescribe many different medicines that will greatly improve that miserable feeling you have been suffering. There is nothing to worry about.
However, if the person is certified, there will be a certificate hanging on the wall somewhere behind the counter.
I would suggest (from experience) Kava for anxiety. Please do not mix any of these herbs with prescription medicine without your Doctors permission. It could prove Fatal.
