It is my understanding that there are 'female' and 'male' eggplant- can you please advise how to determine?

The big tough bitter one's are male; the tasty tender one's are female. :-) Just kidding. The fruit is the ovum of the plant, so all fruits are female. It is my understanding that there are 'female' and 'male' eggplant- can you please advise how to determine?
There is actually no such thing as separate-sexed fruits. Fruits are the product of sex - they do not partake in it.

However, there is apparently an old-wives tale that there are male and female eggplants. This refers to a dimple on the bottom of the fruit. If the dimple is round and shallow it's said to be a male. If the dimple is deep and shaped like a dash it's said to be a female. The 'male' eggplants are said to be less seedy and more meaty.
