To get leaner cut back on your carbohydrates late in the day. This means eating a salad and lean protein for dinner and avoiding bread, pasta, and rice.
Stop eating 2 hours before bedtime.

Whey protein has less of a bulking effect when taken with water instead of milk. You can go ahead and take whey, and watch your carbs.
Also, if you just want to get leaner, use light to medium weight and a higher number of reps. This will get you more cut.
